Sarah Wilson's book on living well in a collapsing world, which began as a weekly series on her Substack.

I Eat the Stars
I Eat the Stars: How to Live Fully and Beautifully in a Collapsing World is a 2026 book by Australian journalist and author Sarah Wilson, published by Penguin. It argues that humanity is undergoing 'systemic collapse'—the same fate faced by every complex civilization before us—amid overlapping crises such as climate carnage, AI and nuclear threat, collapsing democracies, and rising inequality. Drawing on more than 200 interviews with philosophers, poets, game theorists, economists, climate scientists, and spiritual leaders, Wilson offers a guide to living meaningfully, creatively, and with 'fierce love' through troubled times. The title is taken from a poem by NASA astronomer and poet Rebecca Elson, whose line 'I eat the stars' encapsulates Wilson's invitation to relish what is valuable and return to our full humanity.
